IUSE: Learning From Students to Create Institutional Response-Ability

In Education, we’re all about supporting students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. This new research project is designed to help BIPOC students succeed in STEM education pathways. We want to understand what helps—and what gets in the way—as you work toward a STEM education career path so that we can create a better experience for everyone coming up in these fields.

Why This Project Matters

This project is here to make a difference. By learning more about the ups and downs of your education journey, we can help faculty and staff build a more inclusive environment that truly supports you. Together, we’re paving the way for a diverse STEM community at Cal Poly Humboldt and beyond!

Here’s how this project will impact the field:

1.       It helps grow a STEM education workforce that reflects our diverse communities and perspectives.

2.       It supports new ideas and approaches in STEM education research.

3.       It contributes to solutions for global challenges by bringing together a variety of voices and skills.

Opportunities to Participate

We want to hear from you! This Spring 2025, join us for listening sessions focused on understanding the experiences of BIPOC students in STEMEd career pathways. Your insights are essential in shaping a more supportive environment here at Humboldt—and you’ll receive a $25 gift card for sharing your story!

Who we’re looking for:

  • BIPOC students in STEM education career paths.
  • First and second-year students curious about STEM education.
  • Anyone from a diverse cultural background exploring a career in STEM education.
