Jayne McGuire
Special Education Program Leader & Professor
Jayne McGuire is a professor at Cal Poly Humboldt and Program Leader for the Special Education Credential Program. She teaches in Recreation Administration, Adapted Physical Education, Special Education, and College Faculty Preparation programs. Jayne is passionate about inclusion in the classroom and in the community. During her career, she has as served as a special educator, a therapeutic recreation specialist, an executive director of an accessible adventure organization, and a Special Olympics coach and researcher. Dr. McGuire has published articles, book chapters, and a textbook and presented nationally/internationally on inclusion, universal design for learning, self-determination, and Special Olympics. Jayne is actively involved across campus and in the community through her work with the University Senate, and various campus committees, as well as service with several community-based organizations including Humboldt Special Olympics, the City of Arcata, and We Are Up. She is a twice-awarded Fulbright Scholar who worked with the University of West Indies, in Trinidad and Tobago (St. Augustine campus) in 2017 and Jamaica (Mona campus) 2022-2023.
