Subject Matter Competency
California Education Code requires that all candidates for a teaching credential must demonstrate they are proficient in the subject matter area of their intended credential.
Recent action by the Governor and the Legislature on AB 130 has expanded the ways in which candidates may demonstrate subject matter proficiency.
You are able to fulfill Subject Matter Competency through the following ways:
- Commission Approved Subject Matter Program in Content Area
- Successful completion of a Baccalaureate (or higher degree) in Content Area
- CSET Single Subject: Content Area
- Successful completion of Coursework in Content Area (requires further transcript evaluation)
- Combination of CSET and Coursework in Content Area (requires further transcript evaluation)
